PREP YOUR CLOSET FOR SPRING – IN 5 EASY STEPS!

5 WAYS TO TRANSITION TO SPRING

In a few days, it will be the first day of Spring (March 20th)! Although we are in the middle of a snowstorm as I type this post, I’m hoping for warmer days in the near future. If you are tired of your thick coats and looking to get a headstart at updating your closet for Spring, read on for 5 easy steps to make that happen, and transform into a fashionista who can transition effortlessly between seasons.

SPRING FASHION 2018

It’s time to get rid of the thick coats and puffer jackets and pick up the trench coats, blazers and over shirts which I recently learnt are also called “shakets” (shirt-jackets) on Delina’s lovely blog. In this post, I’m wearing a beautiful polka dot blazer from an old ZARA collection. ASOS, ZARA and H&M(sometimes) are some of my favourite stores for outerwear.  Here are a few examples from a variety of brands, that will give your closet a face-lift:

2.

Bottoms up! No need for thermal bottoms or snow pants and thick denim. We can now embrace ripped jeans, skirts, and dresses. The ripped jeans featured here are from FashionNova. The fit is absolutely perfect and I love the little zipper detailing by the ankles. Leggings and jeggings are also perfect for spring. Wear them with a shirt dress, sweater dress or mini skirt for some variety.

3.

If you live in a region where the weather is stable, you can say ‘see ya later‘ to your Uggs, Over-the-knee boots and some ankle boots even. I was going to put away my beloved sock boots but after a week of relatively warm weather, we got a blizzard the next day so maybe there’s still a need to keep at least ankle boots around. Rain boots are also important for when the rain comes in all of its glory during the pre-summer months. Some great footwear options for spring are lace-up oxfords, Chelsea boots, white sneakers, and black or nude stiletto pumps like I have on here. You can’t beat the versatility of some great nude heels.

4.

Colour! That’s what makes the biggest difference. Enough of the blacks, deep burgundy, navy blues and army greens. In anticipation of summer, it’s only right to drop a few yellows, bright pinks and light blues in your closet. The 2018 spring season is big on yellows and pastels. So even if it’s by adding some pretty statement jewellery like this earring I copped from H&M, or going for a bright coloured sweater like I did here; adding some colour will make all the difference in bringing your outfit to life.

I‘m all for embracing personal style rather than just jumping on trends, but I’ll also argue that it’s always fun to add a few trendy pieces that suite your personal style. This season its all about polka dots and check/ plaid prints, slim shades, basket bags, bucket hats, and see-through fabrics to name a few. Accessories are the perfect way to keep you outfit current. Here are a few items I’m loving right now:

So that’s my go to formula  for transitioning into the new season. I’d love to know what you think and how you adapt your style to the new season. Leave me a comment!

INSPO OF THE DAY: 11 See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. 12 Flowers appear on the earth;
    the season of singing has come…” (Songs of Solomon 2:11-12)
