
A few weeks into the new year and the dust has settled. The hype around new year expectations and resolutions have started to subside and sadly it’s about the time when we start to lose motivation to keep pursuing those goals, intentions or resolutions that we made at the start of the year. You may be relatively immune to giving up if you strategized for the year effectively. However, it is understandable that our drive and determination can start to falter with time, and soon we can lose sight of the goals we were once so driven to achieve. Of course, there are a lot of ways to stay motivated but the one way that works best to keep me motivated is by keeping my focus not so much on the goal itself, but on the why behind the goal.
In addition to setting goals the SMART way (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound), I find that it’s easier to be motivated when the goals are around things that you are actually passionate about. If you haven’t, it’ll be a good idea to think about your why. Are your goals selfish/vain or are they purpose-driven? Does the thought of accomplishing them get you excited?
